Common Admission Test results, slated to be released by the third week of February, have been delayed again. IIM-Ahmedabad officials said the results were now expected only next week.

This year’s CAT, which went online for the first time, was marked by several glitches and authorities were forced to take a retest a few days back. So the delay in publication of results has come as a final indictment of the new system for a lot of candidates. Close to 2.41 lakh students have taken the test that is a gateway to not just the IIMs but close to 80 other B-schools that select candidates on the basis of scores in this entrance test. ‘‘Technology is supposed to fasten processes, not beat them down slow,’’ said a student from Podar College who took the test this year.

The 33-year procedure of conducting the paper-pencil CAT was done away with this time and an online exam was held from November 27 to December 7. Several candidates had a harrowing time, with servers not being able to shoulder the large number of students who were logging in and computer screens going blank.

The IIMs later had to schedule a retest on January 30 and 31 for about 11,000 candidates who faced problems when the original exam was conducted.

CAT 2009 scores will be available on the CAT website at www.catiim.in from 22 January 2010. Candidates must retain a print-out of their score card. Candidates short-listed by the IIMs for interviews for PGP will also be listed on the CAT website. Each IIM will send interview letters to short-listed candidates. Please refer to the individual IIM websites for their selection criteria.

CAT Result and Short-listing

CAT 2009 result will be announced from Friday, 22 January 2010 onwards on the CAT website. Simultaneously, CAT website will also list the names of the candidates short-listed for interviews by IIMs for PGP. Each IIM will send interview letters to the candidates it has short-listed. The criteria for short-listing varies from IIM to IIM. Please visit the admission hotlinks of the respective websites of IIMs for further information.

About 2000 candidates out of 2.41 lakhs were not able to write the exam due to technical glitches.
