Navdeep Kumar, Topper of UP Board Class 12 Exams

Navdeep Kumar of Fatehpur topped the UP Board class 12 examinations, results of which were declared here on Thursday. He aggregated 93.4 per cent marks. Girls again outperformed their male counterparts as the total pass percentage of girl students in the state was 89.62 against the boys’ pass percentage of 73.55 per cent.

The number of candidates who appeared in the UP Board’s intermediate examination this year was nearly six lakhs less than that of the previous year. However, the overall pass percentage this year was 80.54 which is a marginal 1.02 per cent more than last year’s figure of 79.52 per cent.

The number of first division-holders climbed to 15.33 per cent which was more than that of the last year’s figure, while the number of those securing second and third divisions fell sharply. Similarly, the number of students passing with distinction this year rose by 2.3 per cent. Out of the 15 lakh candidates, who took the exams this year, over 8,77,000 were boys and 6,33,000 girls.

Accepting that adoption of new measures on the pattern of CBSE has paid rich dividends , director, secondary education , Sanjay Mohan and secretary, UP Board, Prabha Tripathi said that the herculean task of evaluating answer-sheets of 15 lakh candidates was completed by May 4 at 88 evaluation centres. Moreover, around 50 students scored more than 90 per cent marks in the overall aggregate while around 6,669 crossed the 80 per cent barrier . Results of 19,277 candidates were withheld on account of use of unfair means.

As many as of 599 FIRs were lodged against various persons. The board also ordered re-examination at 267 centres where irregularities were reported.
